Football tournaments in Assam are very popular in the North East of India among people. There is an exclusive craze for football tournament in Assam. The Assam Football Association (AFA) is one of the 37 Indian states football associations that are affiliated with the All India Football Federation. It governs football in the state of Assam, India, and also administers the Assam men’s and women’s football teams. It sends state teams for the Santosh Trophy and the Senior Women’s National Football Championship.

Guwahati Sports Association (GSA). The tournament was established in 1952 by Gauhati Town Club. It is named after Assam’s first chief minister, Gopinath Bordoloi. The prestigious tournament comprises some top clubs from the northeast and rest of India. Clubs from Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, Iran, and Uzbekistan have also participated in this major championship. Abahani Limited of Bangladesh lifted the 2010 edition trophy.
Assam State Premier League
The
Assam State Premier League (ASPL) is the state-level football league in the Indian state of Assam. It is the highest state-level football league in the Assam organized by the Assam Football Association, currently contested by 8 clubs.
The
Assam State Premier League inaugural edition of the league started in 2008 with Assam Rifles winning its first title. After some years in 2015 the league was discontinued. But after 7 years in 2023, it was revived by the Assam Football Association.
