 The first step of dance sports

The first ever dance sport, specifically tango (a type of ballroom dancing) dance competition, was organized in Nince, France in 1907. After the first competition of dancesport in 1909 an unofficial ballroom championship was held in Paris. The World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) in the early 1980s started the term “DanceSport”, before the name WDSF it was IDSF but in 2011 it was permanently named WDSF.

Dancesport is very popular in the USA as compared to other countries and further they created an international DanceSport organization in the United States itself. In March 2019 at the World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi dancesport was recognized as a sport from that time onwards dancesport was considered in the sports industry officially.

Breakdancing competitions are generally not considered competitions; they are usually known as battles, which is the main part of the culture, where breakers compete with each other to show their skills, talent, and creativity in their moves. The battles consist of a panel of judges, who give scores to the competitors based on their overall performance.

In the beginning of the 1970s break dance started to take the shape of the finest dance style because of its unique moves, cultural practice, and the rhythms that the dances needed to perform their movements.

  1. Toprock: It is a series of footwork patterns that involve elegant footsteps, glides, and shuffles.
  2. Downrock: It is a set of moves that involves dropping the dancer on the floor and performing it along with superb footwork, flips spins, etc.
  3. Power moves: It is considered one the most difficult styles in breaking as the dance style is performed with the help of aerial moves that also include flips, spins, and twists examples of that are: headspins, freezes, etc.
  4. Freeze: It is a pose that involves staying or holding the same pose for a very long time for like a few seconds which is often done in a dramatic manner or in an impressive pose that is attractive for visual representation.

Breaking can define dance sports well because it fulfills all the required elements of dance sports. That’s why it can be considered the finest form of dance sport. Breaking is an excellent way of improving coordination, physique, fitness, and flexibility. It also helps in improving mental strength as it helps to improve mental focus, discipline, and impulse activity for building self-expression, confidence, and esteem.
